Barber Hills Trail at Pat Mayse Lake
Arthur City, Texas
2.4 miles SW of Arthur City, TexasDogwood starts off with a few quick creek crossings, then turns into flowing trails. There are a couple of great views of Pat Mayse Lake on the trail. Don't get too relaxed because the steepest climb at Barber Hills comes up quickly after the overlooks. The last part of the trail has a steep root-covered downhill with a rock covered creek bottom. Barber starts off pretty flat and will make you think it will be an easy stroll in the woods. Get ready for the technical ascents and descents to come! Barber offers a great workout! Buzzard Hallow starts off immediately into an uphill section to give you a hint of what you are in for. Buzzard Hallow has decent flow with elevation changes and great views of Pat Mayse Lake! Milkweed leaves the Pat Mayse dam area paralleling the highway It soon heads away from the road with some technical areas to navigate. There is a great climb at the end of the trail leading up to the Corps office fence. At the end of the fence take a right to the start of the Upper Bedford.Upper Bedford dives back into the woods from the Corp Road and quickly turns into a technical trail that has many roots and elevation changes before ending up at the Inner Loop. There is not much to say about the Inner Loop but that it's a fun, fast trail! Most of the trail has great flow except for a couple of fairly tight areas in the trees. Overall, a super-fast trail with great traction year around! Lower Bedford leaves the Inner Loop with a downhill section that has a small air catching ledge with a short climb after. The trail then turns into a fun fast trail that is a lot like the Inner Loop. Lower Bedford is probably the second most ridden trail at Barber Hills. Bottom Bracket starts out with probably the fastest downhill at Barber Hills! After the first section, it goes into a switchback area with several climbs. In the middle of the trail lies the 45 foot skinny bridge across an area that holds water after it rains. The custom is to take a video of your riding buddies on their first trip across! The back side of the trail has several fast creek crossings with bridges to help keep your speed up. The last part of the trail has a long climb with a switchback the leads to the last flat section. Deer run is a great flowing trail that parallel's the corp road before finally crossing it and ending up back at the Sanders Cove trailhead. Indian Nation Trail

9.1 miles N of Broken Bow, OklahomaVery technical trail. 5 miles one-way. Trail is singletrack througout, that winds along Broken Bow reservoir in and out of coves and ravines. There is a lot of up and down. Typical rocky Ouachita Mountains terrain. The south end of the trail has a very steep section that can't be ridden up (or probably down too) by most people. Once on top though, there is an excellent scenic view of Broken Bow Lake. The signs at the trailhead says that mountain biking is allowed, but trail is not listed on the Beavers Bend Trail Guide, and it is listed as a hiking trail on the Beavers Bend Resort Park map. The latter only provides a simple sketch of the trail. There are plenty of campling and recreation options around this area. No fee either. Courtesy of Singletracks.com

Erwin Park

4.1 miles N of Mckinney, TexasErwin Park has an official trail head starting point. However, the trails make 2 loops from this point and didn't, in my opinion, come together too well. So, I recommend a different route. You can do the route either way depending on whether you want to do the easier sections first or do the harder sections first. The beginning of the harder section is actually a good warm up so I recommend the harder section first. If you do it this way, you will be riding in a clockwise direction. From the parking lot, ride directly into the trees that are immediately adjacent to the parking lot. It won't take you long to find the trails. Turn right and you're good to go. This early section has the best section of woop-dee-doos as it meanders through dense hardwoods along a creek bottom. Once the trail finishes meandering through the trees, it enters a big field. This provides an opportunity to turn on the after burners and really get the heart pumping. The trail makes its way to the park boundaries and runs along a fence for a short distance before heading back into the trees. Then the tight single track starts up again. There is one more section of field and one more section of riding in the trees before finishing the first loop and reaching the main trail head. This first section has some very tight and fairly technical sections that require careful negotiation or you will end up hitting a tree or having a stump or root send you for a spill.The main trail head is at one end of the parking lot so you can end the ride here. Or, you can merge left onto the easier loop for a few more miles of fun. This section of the trail is not nearly as technical or tight or twisty as the first section. There is also a bigger percentage of the trail in fields. So, this provides a good opportunity to really get some speed up and catch some air on several small jumps. Toward the end of this section, you enter the overflow parking lot which is just a big, grassy field. Shortly thereafter, you cross the road you drove in on. Northwest Community Park

4.3 miles NW of Frisco, TexasA simple trail, perfect for beginners located in the outskirts of Frisco, TX. Although it is an excellent beginner trail, it still has a fair number of challenges, obstacles, and separate routes geared more towards experienced riders. The trail consists of three loops: an outer loop called the Ranger Loop, marked by blue, which is best for beginners, an inner loop called Wolverine, marked by orange, good for intermediate riders, and another inner loop called Redhawk, marked by red, and best for advanced riders. The total mileage of all the trails combined is 5 miles with about 400 feet of climbing. The trail is built on the side of a prarie hill and is mostly grassy with some good open field scenery. There are very few trees and very few roots which makes for an excellent, fast cross country course. 2.6 miles E of Garland, TexasVery flat for most of the ride. The trial is broken into 11 loops. If you get tired you always can turn around at a loop crossing. It is running along a creek with a levy along the side. The trail head is in the middle so you can go north or south. The south section is flat and built for speed. There is a levy built along the creek to help with flooding. The trail runs up and down along it gong south and north bound is zig zaggy through the trees. The north section is the best. Loop 7 is the most technical with some hard climbs and one huge drop. On the far north side are some of the biggest dips in Dallas. When I first rode them I fell and broke my wrist so be careful. There is a bypass for begginers. The Wall on loop 9 is not as challenging as it used to be. It is quite worn down. All in all a good fun ride. Sister Grove

The two loops are Sister Grove Loop and the Lake Loop. At the junction of the two loops is a gate. When you get to the gate, always take a left.It is beginner to intermidiate level trail. It is a rolling trail that winds it ways through open fields and woods. It has some good climbs on the Lake Loop and some fast fun down hills on the Sister Grove Loop. Harry Moss Park

8.0 miles N of Dallas, TexasThis is the newest MTB bike trail in Dallas, opened in Dec, 2010. As of 4/5/2011 there are two main loops (Blue, Green) and a yellow bypass section. There is a longer orange section under construction. (We are trying to have it open by Mid May 2011) Start with the Blue section in the front, it starts with easy single track a narrow tree gate and a bridge crossing with a coupe of crossings over some rock piles. At the split either take the yellow bypass to the left (easy route) or continue on the blue loop to the right. This part of the blue winds up and down along the bank of the creek and the railroad right of way, intermediate level for the 1st half of blue loop. You can get a really good workout if you push it. The blue meets back up with the yellow at the bridge for Walnut Hill road. Go left to stay on blue loop back the the parking lot, (this section is mostly flowy and fast), or go right under the bridge to the Green loop. The green loop climbs up and down the bank of Walnut Hill road and then along the bank of the DART line, lots of off camber. The 2nd half of the green loop is flat with some twisty parts and tree gates. The (under construction) orange section (when finished) will add about 1.7 more miles and we plan to add more trail inside the green loop. There is 4 miles now and should be about 7.5 miles of trail when finished. See the DORBA.ORG website for instructions on how to get from the paved "White Rock Creek" trail to the Harry Moss trail. Corinth Community Park
Corinth, Texas
1.2 miles E of Corinth, TexasThis trail consists of an easy, two-way, family-friendly outer loop with an intermediate level, one-way, singletrack inner loop called Thrashers Maze. The preferred route is a counter-clockwise loop leaving from Corinth City Hall parking lot. Follow the trail along Lynchburg Creek until you come to a small parking lot at the east end of the park. From here you can make a U-turn and connect to Thrashers Maze (look for the one-way sign at the entrance) or continue directly across Corinth Parkway and continue to ride the trail around the park perimeter. If you choose Thrashers Maze you will enjoy just under 2 miles of nice singletrack through tight trees. Thrashers Maze will terminate back at the same small parking lot from where it began. Cross Corinth Parkway and continue in a counter-clockwise direction around the perimeter of the park. When you reach the wooded area known as Pacman Hill note that there are several route choices available. Try different ways through but you'll ultimately come out at the main entrance to the park. Proceed south across Corinth Parkway and enter the woods at the right of the parking lot. This is called Bobcat Trail and it leads back to the Lynchburg Creek trail that will take you back to City Hall. Look carefully for a few alternate trails that parallel the main trail and provide a more technical alternative. A well-planned route will net about 7 miles of trail. 3.9 miles NE of Irving, TexasA great smooth, narrow trail for beginners and those that want to enjoy the outdoors but aren't interested in a technical ride. Its my favorite as I'm improving my mountain biking skills. Can be tacky, and even flooded after rains. Has several "dips" which are fun and everyone is capable of maneuvering them, even beginners. Since it is so narrow, you just slow down if needed. Short, under an hour ride. Also, its close to the Campion paved trail if you want more exercise. Courtesy of Singletracks.com

There is a fair amount of trees that cover the trail near both Sanger and Denton, but in between expect the sun and wind to hit you square. Some hikers and even the occassional horse to dodge. North Shore Trail

1.7 miles SE of Flower Mound, TexasThere were sections of singletrack that were excellent, and there were some technical rock strewn ups and downs that were challenging. This was all good. The technical sections of this trail are quickly becoming trials sections due to erosion especially toward the end of the trail. Poor markings. This is a common problem with multi-purpose trails. There are gates at the road crossings which can cause you some issues. There are paved sections incorparted into the system and the biggest issue is the two way loop. Beware of oncomming traffic – The trail can be crowded with a variety of riders from slower free ride types to screaming fast wanna be DH types to hikers. Courtesy of Singletracks.com
