Located north of Arizona 260, east of Pine-Top Lakeside, Shush Be Tou has over 10 family unit campgrounds with fishing and water activities to accommodate locals and visitors.The white mountain Apache consists of 1.67 million acres (over 2,600 sq. miles), It has 26 lakes, over 400 miles of clean river water and home of the brown, rainbow and the famous Apache trout; was on the brink of extinction until the White Mountain Apache Tribe and the help of partners, were able to bring them back. Shush Be Tou is an Apache word meaning "big bear" and it's sister lake Shush Bezahze meaning "little bear" is located beside it.

The seasons for this campground is from May-November and staying at this campground is limited to 10 days, so make sure to book your stay in advance.

Camping Regulations:

Leave campsites clean by throwing away garbage in the trash cans, campers need to stay in their designated camping spots and not venture off beyond other areas for safety, keep your camp fires at a reasonable height and stay in your designated campsite with your fire, do not break off branches or cut trees down at the campsite for any reason, taking wood and plants from the campsite is NOT ALLOWED, keep pets on a leash at all times; the leash should not go pass 10ft. Show respect for other campers by lowering your music volume down during reasonable hours of the day/night. Using firearms is illegal at the campgrounds. Dumping grey water and sewage in other areas aside from approved sewage dumping areas, is strictly prohibited. Damaging or placing permanent items (nails in trees) or structures in campsites is NOT ALLOWED. Campers must have a camping permit while collecting firewood.

If you want to fish and game, you will have to first get a permit and pay a fee through the White Mountain Apache Tribe:

    Destination will be on the right

From Pinetop take U.S. Highway 260 east for 15 miles to the small road sign leading to the campground.

Note: if you pass the Hawley Lake turnoff, you have gone about 1000 feet too far.
