Mountain Bike
Just 10 minutes from downtown you can drive to the top of Sharp's Ridge Memorial Park for the best view of our skyline and the distant mountain peaks. There are 4.7 miles of multi-use trails that wind across the wooded hills. The trails can be accessed from the neighborhood on Hanover/Ridge Road; from the bottom trailhead just across from the picnic area; and from the upper parking area by the cell tower. The Gravity Jump Trail is 0.6 miles and is a black diamond expert only trail for mountain bikers - no foot traffic or dogs are allowed. Sharp Ridge trails drain extremely well and are a great place to hike or ride when other Knoxville trails are too wet.The Appalachian Mountain Bike Club is currently building new trails along the ridge. When finished the proposed trail system will have an estimated 8 miles of singletrack trail. Join them for a workday!Birdwatchers might want to join one of the Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society's bird walks.Neighborhood Trail: (access from Hanover/Ridge Road) 1.9 mile wide flowing trail that is beginner friendly.Fire Break Trail: (access from upper parking or lower picnic areas) 1.3 miles of trail with 4-5 steep climbs. Not technical. Great views.Sharp Shin Trail: (access from neighborhood trail or top parking area) 1.5 miles of narrow singletrack. Technical trail, rated intermediatel. Offers great views.Knight Fall Trail -- Black Diamond Expert Only Gravity Jump Trail: This 0.6 mile trail is a onepway directional trail -- no uphill traffic allowed! Mountain bikes only, no foot traffic or dogs allowed. Riders will drop in off the wooden qualifier into a series of berms. Follow that with rollers, table tops and jumps that lead to the signature g-out section. 5 g-outs lead to a final series of table tops. All features are rollable but a little speed will definitely get you some air. Take the climbing trail to get back up to the top. Courtesy of Singletracks.com
More Information
Never modify trail features. Ride trails when they're dry enough that you won't leave ruts. Speak up when you see others on the trail and always yield to hikers, horses, and others coming uphill. Always ride on the established trail.
