Rock Climb

The routes on the Shady Side can be identified by a number on top of the cliff as well as on the face at the bottom of the climbs. The number is close to where the rope should hang for a given climb. There are tons of variations to every problem which are not presented in this guide. These variations are contrived sequences eliminating holds or setting bounds as to how far left or right one can reach.

From Pocatello, Idaho

  1. Head southeast on N 7th Ave toward E Wyeth St (0.2 mi)
  2. Turn right onto E Clark St (0.2 mi)
  3. Turn left onto N 4th Ave (2.0 mi)
  4. N 4th Ave turns right and becomes S 5th Ave (0.1 mi)
  5. Turn right onto Avenue of the Chiefs
    Destination will be on the left

The Shady Side is located on South 5th Ave. in Pocatello. It is below the Fort Hall Replica and Upper Ross Park. Park at the north or south end of the park. This crag is right on a busy road so be aware with small kids and dogs.
