Rose River Falls is a beautiful forested hike in Shenandoah National Park. The lush greenery in this area provides ample shade for hikers as they explore this four mile trail. Rose River Trail is moderately difficult with an elevation change of 910 feet. On average this trail takes hikers four to five hours to complete. Hikers should be prepared with water and snacks for the journey.

The trail begins at Skyline Drive and descends to Rose River. This four mile loop stays near the river for most of the hike, providing beautiful views and the peaceful sound of running water for hikers. Rose River is located in one of the parks federally designated Wilderness Areas, so hikers need to bring all necessities in and out with them.

The highlight of this trail is Rose River Falls itself. This 67 foot waterfall cascades upon a beautiful gray cliff, and pools at the bottom. Hikers can stop here to rest and enjoy the beautiful views and the cool water. It is deep enough in some spots to wade and splash in the water. Swimmers should always be cautious before entering the water, checking depth and flow for safety.
