It is also known as Pu'u 'Ula'ula Cabin . The cabin was built by the Army in 1915. The cabin is located on the Mauna Loa Trail at elevation 10035 ft. Mauna Loa is the world's largest volcano. The height of its summit, which fluctuates slightly in response to volcanic pressure, is 13679 ft above sea level, and about 31000 ft above its base on the ocean floor. The volume of Mauna Loa is approximately 10000 cubic miles, or more than 100 times the size of a volcano like Mt. St. Helens.

  5. Turn left at the 1st cross street onto Kaonoulu St (495 ft)
  6. Turn right onto State Hwy 31 (5.7 mi)
  7. State Hwy 31 turns slightly right and becomes Wailea Ike Dr (0.6 mi)
  8. Turn left onto Wailea Alanui Dr (1.7 mi)
  9. Continue onto Makena Rd (0.5 mi)
  10. Continue onto Makena Alanui (1.5 mi)
  11. Continue onto Makena Rd (0.2 mi)
