Hike and Swim

The Mountain Run swimming hole, also known as the Fridley Gap Hole, located just outside of Keezleton, Virginia, is a popular swimming hole located at about the halfway point of a great hiking loop in the George Washington National Forest. The swimming hole is small, but a refreshing dip for hikers willing to enter the chilly river along their hike around the loop. The highest the water gets is about chest deep and in the most shallow area knee deep.

The swimming hole itself is only about 0.5 miles away from the trailhead so hiking the full trail is not necessary, but can provide a great activity for the day as visitors explore the area surrounding the swimming hole. The water is cold all year so prepare accordingly with towels and possibly a change of clothes. The best times to swim in the Mountain Run swimming hole is from about May to September so that conditions are best suited for a dip in a frigid swimming hole.

The Mountain Run swimming hole is about as picturesque as a swimming hole can be and offers visitors a true all-American experience swimming in beautiful Virginia!
