M.I.A. Skate Park is the result of a family of friends working together for the greater good of our skateboarding community here is South Florida. A little more than four years ago, despite the great number of skaters here, there were no skate parks, or skate shops in Miami. In July of 2002, Matt Cantor opened a small skate park in down town Miami, called Control. The skate park quickly became a central hub for skateboarding in Miami, bringing a community of both new and veteran skateboarders together, under one roof. Shortly after Control\'s inception, Ed Selego and Chris Williams opened the M.I.A. skate shop on Miami Beach. This new endeavor was a welcome addition to Miami\'s skateboarding community. M.I.A. completed the equation by providing an incredible retail experience, while also becoming a very good neighbor to the Control skate park. By constantly working together, Control and M.I.A. were able to provide the skaters of South Florida with some amazing demos, contests, and shop signings over the last four years. Even more so than that, we were able to positively affect the lives of countless young people by providing a safe setting for what is now a very big family of friends. When the opportunity arose to move the skate park to a new location, the three of us agreed that this was our chance to combine our two businesses in order to create what is now the M.I.A. Skate Park. With the help and support of Planet Earth Clothing, Adio Shoes, and all of our family members, we are now able to offer the skateboarding community of South Florida an amazing skate park, as well as an incredible retail experience.
