Camp, Canoe, Hike, Kayak, and Swim
When visiting North Cascades National Park, many people take the time to visit Diablo Lake. This lake has a beautiful turquoise blue color caused by the nearby glaciers. There are trails which go around the lake and take visitors to several overlooks and other area attractions. Many people take the time during the summer to go out onto the lake and kayak, canoe, and go fishing.
The lake is a man mad lake formed by the Diablo Dam. The trail around Diablo Lake also takes visitors to Ross Lake and includes some views of Ross Dam. Not only are the lakes beautiful to see, but the surrounding scenery is a must see for those visiting the area. At Diablo Lake alone are views of Colonial, Pyramid, and Davis Peaks, as well as Sourdough Mountain and several waterfalls.
Along Diablo Lake is a visitors center with information about the park and the surrounding areas. The road to access the lake is closed in the winter due to high snow and increased avalanche risks.
